6MMRPC Phase Two: the Space Rangers

So, another part of the "Lead" Mountain is this box of old ICE Space Rangers (now available from EM-4 Miniatures for a very low price).  I have painted up a handful of these before, most recently in a blue color scheme.  At present I have 27 regular Rangers and 8 Sergeants.  I think I will sub-divide them into units of six: four regular rangers, one with a special weapon, and one sergeant.  The remainders will just be left over (but painted).

I'm actually thinking of tackling this before the Chainmail miniatures, on account of their being a lot less fiddly and more uniform, no pun intended.

The Six Month Mountain Reduction and Painting Challenge

Okay, I'm in.

What convinced me?  First, I miss painting. I lost my mojo a while back and I want it back. Second, it just makes sense from a financial standpoint, especially with some changes for the worse on the horizon. Third, there's not a lot out there I've wanted to buy, so why tempt myself.

So I thought I'd do this in stages, wiping out sections of the mountain rather than chipping away randomly. For my first section, I decided to knock out my collection of D&D Chainmail minis.

These guys could be put to use in my D&D game, or a nice skirmish game like Song of Blades and Heroes. So what is all in the pile?

Three Thalos starter warbands (12 minis total)
One Naresh starter warband (4)
Ravilla Faction box set (6)
Drazen's Horde box set (6)
Mordengard faction box set (6)
Mordengard combo box (4)
Ogre mercenary
Dwarf fighter
Stone spike
Drow warrior
Grey Elf Fighters (2)
Total: 34 miniatures

That should keep me busy for a while. Once completed, I'll claim another Joker, allowing me to make a purchase.

Wish me luck!  I could use the encouragement!

Thinking about the 6MMRPC

Thanks to a handy post by Admiral Drax, I'm now aware of the 6 Month Mountain Reduction and Painting Challenge, hosted by The Spider Web of History.  It's pretty straightforward--you basically don't buy anything in terms of miniatures for six months except for painting supplies, and you paint your own minis for six months, posting pics every week.

I've been lousy about my painting lately, for loads of reasons, and getting a goal and some inspiration might be just the thing for me.  It begins June 1 through November 30, which is a good chunk of time.

There's lots of things I could paint up: ICE Space Rangers, Warmachine box sets, some Nazis...  I'll give it a day or two to think about, and then make my decision.
