What the Hell happened to October?

October, as I was telling Bill earlier today, is always one of the worst months for me when it comes to painting miniatures.  There are a few reasons for this, and they are all related to a simple fact: I paint on Fridays, on my day off.  I don't go into the office on Fridays, but the kids are in school and the spouse is at work, so I have the house to myself.  That's prime hobby time right there.  Nowadays I've become the kind of parent who has stuff going on almost every evening of the week that is work- or family-related, so no relief there.  It's Fridays only, and anything that gums up a Friday means no painting gets done.

And in October, every year, I've got both a work-related convention that takes place on Friday and my trip to Ohio for the End of the World RPG gathering.  There's two Fridays right there.  The other two Fridays of October were spent getting ready for RPG sessions for my home game.  I often joke that I have a hobby switch that has three settings: miniatures, RPG's, and terrain.  The switch has definitely been set to RPG's lately.

Just so it doesn't look like I've never been picking up a brush, however, I did manage to create not one but two additional red-glitter helmets like the one I showed in my last post.  I also made cute Halloween candy boxes for all the staff where I work.

I also managed to base most of ACW troops, but unfortunately ran out of bases to use.

I annihilated my monthly budget for October by buying the latest Reaper Bones Kickstarter (with the mousling upgrade) and a used copy of Mongoose Publication's Traveller.  I bought Traveller because, well, I'm a magpie when it comes to RPG's, but also because Traveller features pretty heavily at EOW and so it was on my mind.  I don't see myself running it anytime soon, however.

Right now, I'm taking a little hiatus from running RPG's.  Whether that means I can sit down and paint something remains to be seen.

  1. He's back! :) I have lots more of those bases if you need some. We aren't really that far from being able to try the ACW rules.
